Climbing  Mount Kilimanjaro, The highest stand-alone Mountain Africa, has many different routes to opt for. The choice of the route to choose is depending on your preference, trekking experience as well as the season of the year.

For Apprentice we suggest Lemosho and Rongai routes are suitable for you, While  Marangu and Umbwe these are for Trekkers with prior hiking experience

Marangu Route; Also referred to as the “Coca-Cola route” as climbing mount Kilimanjaro routes is concerned. It is the only route where you have the luxuriant life like to sleep on the mountain huts, a comfortable mattress with running tape waters.

Marangu route is the best and the direct routes to the Kilimanjaro summit.

Day 1: Arusha-Machame Camp

Transfer to Machame Gate and begin the ascent to Mt. Kilimanjaro summit via Machame Route. Today you will be transferred to the Machame Gate to begin your climb. Depending on the weather this can be a moderate to very demanding day as the trek winds through a beautifully lush rain forest. Overnight in mountain tents at Machame (3000m).

Day 2: Machame Camp-Shira

A full day as you start early, leaving the forest behind and climb a steep ridge for 3-4 hours. The path then drops into a gorgeous river gorge before you climb more gently up onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau. The Shira Plateau is all that remains of an older volcano that was engulfed when the much larger Kili formed. On clear days the views are absolutely breath-taking: a seemingly endless expanse of multi-colored heath to the gargantuan rim at the end of the plateau where billows of clouds melt down onto the plateau floor. Overnight camping in mountain tents at Shira (3840m).

Day 3: Shira Camp-Barranco

Today’s 5-6 hours walk across the plateau makes little net elevation, although there are ups and downs throughout the day. We’ll enjoy sightings of the typical Kilimanjaro mountain vegetation and rewarding views of the spectacular Barranco Valley. Overnight camping in mountain tents at Barranco (3950m).

Day 4: Barranco Camp-Karanga Valley

The standard day includes about 6-8 hours of trekking, up the great Barranco Wall, then across scree and ridges to the Karanga Valley area (4100m) for lunch, before continuing further up to Barafu Camp at 4600m. Overnight camping in mountain tents at Barafu.

Day 5: Karanga Valley To Barafu Camp

After breakfast at the Karanga valley camp, you will walk a ridge and enter a cold desert for about 4 hours and then reach the Barafu Hut. Crews will collect water from the last water stop at Karanga Valley in the morning, as there is no water at Barafu camp. Barafu is the Swahili word for “ice” as it is a bleak and inhospitable camping area to spend the night. Totally exposed to the ever-present gales the tents are pitched on a narrow, stony, and dangerous ridge. Make sure that you familiarize yourself with the terrain before dark to avoid any accidents as this is a dangerous area

Day 6: Barafu-Uhuru-Mweka

You will rise around 2330hrs, have some tea and biscuits then shuffle off into the night heading in the northwesterly direction. Ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. At Stella Point (5685m) you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From Stella Point, you will normally encounter snow all the way on your 2-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak (5896m). Despite the actual distance of the trek not being too far the progress is slow – there is less than half the oxygen than at sea level! Uhuru Peak provides a unique reward and usually a plethora of emotions. If your progress has been good you can watch the sunrise from the rooftop of Africa! Most people then start returning quite soon after sunrise as the return journey today is quite long. Take a brief respite at Barafu Camp before descending all the way down to Mweka Camp at 3100m. Overnight at Mweka Camp.

Day 7: Mweka-Arusha

After breakfast descends through the lower heath section that quickly turns into the rainforest. Your time on Kilimanjaro ends at Mweka Gate where you will be met and transferred back to the Hotel in Arusha or Moshi for overnight (BB)

BOOKING CONDITIONS AND PAYMENT

A booking is considered confirmed upon receipt of a 40% deposit to our bank account. Only the amount received by our bank account shall be regarded as paid (with all money transfer costs paid by the customer). The remaining balance is due 45 days before your departure date. If your reservation is made within 45 days of departure, the entire amount must be paid at the time of confirmation.

Although if a client is unable to pay the entire amount at the due date, we will do our best to provide an alternative option

BOOKING ALTERATIONS

For alterations of existing bookings done by the client (e.g. air tickets, departure dates, number of participants, accommodation etc.) a handling fee of 80 USD per booking applies. The handling fee will be charged on top of the service provider fees.

CHILDREN POLICY

Children between the age of 3 and 12 years will pay 50-75% of the adult rate if occupying a room with two adults.

Pay 75% of the adult rate if occupying a room with another child.

Pay 100% of the adult rates if occupying a room with one adult

CANCELLETION

Any cancellation of a reservation must be in writing, either by e-mail or fax and shall only be effective upon its receipt and acknowledgement by Vianney’s Untamed Expeditions. Thus, reservations that are cancelled, reduced in length of stay or reduced in the number of occupancies are subject to cancellation and no-show fees. The following scale of cancellation charges will be applicable, depending on the day before the departure of the tour when the cancellation notice is received.

25% if cancelled up to 30 days prior to arrival.

50% if cancelled between 30 and 15 days prior to arrival

100% if cancelled within 14 days or in the case of a ‘No Show.’

If the cancellation case is discussed earlier, we will do our best to render our support. We understand that things can happen and will try to resolve any problems that are brought to our consideration.

RISK

The client accepts that all tours are of an adventurous nature and involve an element of personal risk. Neither the Company nor any of its agents can be held responsible in any way for any injury, loss of life or damage to property, howsoever caused. The client therefore insures will hold the Company, its agent, assigns and servants harmless from any such claim. The client accepts full responsibility for all risks involved.

AUTHORITY ON TOUR

The decisions of the Company´s guide/driver on tour shall at all times be ultimate and binding. The client must at all times conform to the laws, customs and foreign exchange regulations of all countries visited.

MARKETING

The Company reserves the right to use any videos and photographs taken during tours for marketing or any other advertising purposed. Hence the client gives consent to use such photographs and authorizes the Company to retain copyright for these photographs and such material.

ITINERARY CHANGES

We reserve the right to re-arrange the itinerary or amend the arrangements of any tour in case of unanticipated hostile circumstances beyond our control; although efforts will be made to adhere to the original program.

FORCE MAJEUR

Unanticipated circumstances including but not limited to mechanical breakdowns, weather, war, riots and other unpredictable circumstances above the control of the Company may cause Interruptions or alterations to the tour. The Company shall not be held responsible in any way for any of these possible occurrences or any consequences, which may arise as a result of these.

SCAMS

Please note that if you receive an email from someone asking you to send them moneys via Money Gram or Western Union, this is an email hacking scam. Vianney’s Untamed Expeditions does not accept payments from customers via Western Union or Money Gram.
